Breathing Places kicks off in Scotland

Breathing Places

Scottish Seed Hunters

To kick off Aggregate Industries Breathing Places involvement, the nature reserves at Falls of Clyde was the venue for a day of seed gathering experience.  It was the idea of Glyn Jones, Senior Estates Surveyor for Scotland working with the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

One of the Breathing Places themes for autumn 2006 was the Seed Hunt.  The aim was to help create new woodlands for future generations using seeds from local trees.  At Falls of Clyde, Aggregate Industries and Scottish Wildlife Trust staff were joined by children from local  schools.   On a bright autumn day, participants foraged for seeds for indentification before planting.

The collected seeds have been planted and are being grown on by the schools with the intention of being used as part of a tree planting programme around Duntilland Quarry.  Seed hunts have taken place all over the UK.
